Mmm, delicious....

I was recently inspired by Alyssa Monks to try some super realistic painting. Foolishly, I decided on the weekend before we leave for Russia, and have spent the full two days painting. But it's finally done and I'm very pleased with it. It's acrylic on paper, and I'm calling it "Coconut Water" for now. This will be my fourth piece in the water themed show in October (here are pieces one, two, and three). I had a hard time photographing it in the dark room, but I just couldn't wait till tomorrow!

Another view to get the colors a little less washed out by the light

And a detail...

Still, I feel that there is some serious room for improvement in my work. More and more I feel that my art has no point, that the paintings are dull and static. My challenge for this winter is to break out of this rut and dish out something more juicy!

this painting is AMAZING! well done! and you did a great job on the black:) the only thing i can say is the hand in front looks a little wonky--i think it should be bigger.
the first pic show the shadows in blue and the last show them in brown--which is more true? the blue shadows are beautiful...

thanks! the second one is the most true, but the shadows are purple with some browns and oranges etc.
